Hey,

Yeah EE does cost $250 which is a big shame. And it's not open-source as you say. Although it looks like Wordpress MU almost matches it, plus it's mobile compatible.

Cheers for the tip there though with the Firefox addon - will install it! :)

Thanks Paul, some nice looking sites!

Doesn't look like carsandtrains.net is built on Wordpress. We should have mentioned in the article actually, there's a cool addon for Firefox called Wappalyzer that tells you what framework/CMS the current site is built with. Check it out - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10229

I've heard some good things about Expression Engine. However, it's not open source (costs $250 per site) so it's not as easy to experiment with as Wordpress.

This is built in Wordpress I think.
http://www.carsandtrains.net/

Although, have you tried Expression Engine? I vaguely remember reading his label website was built using it:
http://www.circleintosquare.com/

As is this label:
http://qn5.com/

You can't be a good Wordpress based site when it comes to aggregating all social media content together in one place. We're using it for Secret Hymn Records, although it hasn't been made live yet. Hoping to utilise as many live capture tools as possible with that one for tours....
